Roskilde Festival

Roskilde Festival is the largest music festival in Northern Europe attracting audiences from all over Europe. It is an independent, non-profit festival organised by The Roskilde Festival Society.

The staff consists of a handful of permanent employees plus around 21,000 volunteer workers. Roskilde Festival presents an up-to-date and progressive music programme ranging from contemporary rock to electronic music, hip hop and global beats plus an extensive programme of events, art and activities.

Each year, more than 160 bands play at six stages during four days from Thursday to Sunday. The camping areas open on the Sunday prior to the festival with music at Pavilion Junior the stage for upcoming acts and many activities during the four days leading up to Thursday under the theme More Than Music. Roskilde Festival is four days of music and eight days of experiences.

Each year, an extensive environmental programme is implemented, including refund on bottles and cups. Any profits from the festival are donated to national and international humanitarian charity and cultural purposes.

Roskilde Festival was established in 1971 and have since then presented acts such as Beastie Boys, Björk, Black Sabbath, Blur, David Bowie, Nick Cave, Ray Charles, The Clash, Elvis Costello, The Cure, Bob Dylan, Foo Fighters, Garbage, Iggy Pop, Korn, Manic Street Preachers, Marilyn Manson, Bob Marley, Massive Attack, Metallica, Van Morrison, New Order, Nirvana, Oasis, Primal Scream, Pulp, Radiohead, Lou Reed, R.E.M., Patti Smith, Sonic Youth, The Strokes, Suede, Talking Heads, Tool, U2, Underworld, Robbie Williams, Wu-Tang Clan, Neil Young, Brian Wilson and many, many others.

Camping is free with a festival ticket. Camping facilities include: hot and cold showers, cooking areas, food stalls, beer stalls, clothes stalls, cinema, street sports, skating area with DJs, luggage storage and various events. Roskilde Festival is located outside the town of Roskilde, 35 km from Copenhagen.
