End Of The Road festival
12th of September 2008 - 14th of September 2008
"An artistic Triumph and fully deserving of its place in the Festival calendar" THE INDEPENDENT
Like a lot of festival goers we had always joked around saying "wouldn't it be nice to put on our own '
erfect' festival with our favourite line up". It was only after having been to the Green Man Festival in Wales in August 2005 that we finally thought to ourselves that we can make this happen and put on our own quality festival where:
- you won't get all the over hyped bands headlining
- most bands play longer sets than usual
- you can eat a range of quality food
- you can drink a range of quality beers
- the staff and security care about everyone and show respect
- the crowd will be there for the MUSIC
- you can watch the bands without having to stare at huge advertising hoardings.
So Simon sold his house, moved his family into rented accommodation and we started to plan what has become the End of the Road Festival.
The idea with the End of the Road Festival was to organise an intimate festival with our favourite artists and to offer the bands an opportunity to play longer sets compared to most other festivals. The festival has a friendly and relaxed feel and the Larmer Tree Gardens (North Dorset/Wiltshire borders, UK) is the perfect venue to create this kind of atmosphere - where music-loving, open minded and chilled out people get together in the beautiful countryside whilst parrots and peacocks wonder around!
This is the kind of festival where the ENTIRE line-up is the headliner in itself!
End of the Road festival takes a lot of pride in all the 'little things' that make a great festival, such as good food (organic / local), good beer, caring and well-mannered staff, hygiene etc.
It is important for us to keep our creative freedom, so we have taken a conscious decision not to litter the beautiful venue with advertising hoardings. We believe that people go to festivals for the music, not to be sold a particular brand of beer or a mobile phone.
We encourage band participation in all areas of the festival, and some acts will be invited to dj, present workshops and many other things besides. The festival has the kind of atmosphere which encourages collaboration and 'special' events - 2006 saw acts such as I'm from Barcelona, Ed Harcourt, Josh Ritter and Darrren Hayman all playing surprise sets in and around the festival site, as well as a few unexpected collaborations (thankyou Ryan Adams and Jolie Holland, and the Brakes/Seapower/Soft Parade boys).
As one of the festival organisers is Swedish, there will also be a Scandinavian feel to the festival with a Scandinavian showcase of up and coming Nordic talent. But it won't stop at that, there will also be Swedish snacks and other Scandinavian treats such as playing the old Viking game Kubb.
Everything went as we hoped last year and we are hoping for more of the same atmosphere this year. There will be more surprises in store all around the site, so you will just have to come and discover them for yourselves!
