Aeon Festival

The Artists' Evolving Organic Network was born in March '06, as the collective brain-child of Rob Portus and other members of Bluetungsten Photography. It stems from the realisation that there is no central network that unites all kinds of artists with all kinds of property owners in the UK. They were attempting, at the time, to find locations for hosting artistic events as well as finding studio space in the countryside.
Aeon was born, and along with it the beginnings of the Aeon Directory, which is still evolving to become the dynamic resource they intend.
Alongside this came the realisation that to promote the site and its associated artists, there needed to a bloody good launch party. This is where Niki came on board to haul things in shape. After 4 frantic months juggling doubt and perserverance the first festival was held on August 26th 2006. Ullacombe Farm proved the perfect setting: Mark and Hiliary Pilkington are long-term friends of the family and all the Portus mob had worked there at one time or another, doing everything from milking cows to collecting eggs! The Pilkington's had complete faith in it all, allowing the Aeon crew the freedom to pull off such a unique event in so little time.
Plenty of mistakes were made along the way, and everyone learnt a lot from the developing process and the sleep-deprived weekend that ensued. Fortunately Aeon has been allowed to return to the same site, so it can move ever onwards and upwards. Niki and Rob hope to develop Aeon into one of the most intimate and inspiring independant events on the calendar, remaining non-commercial and unique and earning a cult status amongst hard-core festival lovers across the country.
